I first met Dutch journalist and all-round nice gal Flore de Vries yonks ago when she had just made her home in Cape Town. Fast forward a wee bit and we both had babes in arms. A little further down the line, and Flore and I were chatting about her ingenious and fun little cardboard book, My First Cape Town Words. From ‘bakkie’ and ‘dassie’ to ‘braai’ and ‘train’ I loved the way she visually connected single words with iconic Cape Town imagery and landmarks in a colourful, robust and perfect-for-little-hands format. Since then Flore has been prolific, creating and growing her kids product range under the Pictures & Words label. There’s a puzzle and a memory game, colouring in and activity books and postcards and another word book, this time Jozi-inspired.
